NEIGHBORHOOD NATIONAL BANK CELEBRATES TEN YEARS IN SAN DIEGO
SAN DIEGO, CA — January 10, 2007— Neighborhood National Bank announced today its landmark anniversary—ten years of service in San Diego County—amid plans for a year-long celebration. As the nation’s first nationally-chartered Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), NNB has served as a catalyst in the redevelopment of San Diego’s underserved communities and has established itself as an economic pillar over the past decade.
“When founding NNB in 1997, we had a vision to revitalize and generate growth in San Diego’s communities,” stated Robert McGill, Chairman of the Board, “and we’ve made tremendous strides doing this over the past ten years. We strive to improve the quality of life for all San Diegans, giving residents the financial tools to build stability and self-sufficiency.”
NNB has developed innovative products and services to help meet the loan and deposit service needs of underserved communities. NNB places an emphasis on minority and women owned businesses and those businesses providing job opportunities for low to moderate-income wage earners.
“Neighborhood National Bank is different because they look at who we are as people, as members of the community, and as small and medium size business owners — not merely as numbers on a page,” says Mary Ellen Faught, co-owner of National City’s landmark ice cream shop Niederfrank’s, one of the many local businesses that are served by NNB. “Our business had been affected by a number of factors beyond our control. NNB was the one bank that really listened to us and offered real solutions.”
“With the help of NNB, we were able to obtain a Small Business Administration loan,” stated Aurora Crane of Lil’ Arts, a cultural performing arts center for children in Rancho Bernardo. “They really took an interest in our programs and our dreams. We and the students at Lil’ Arts would like to thank Neighborhood National Bank for making a difference in [our] journey.”
NNB was the first bank in San Diego County to offer the Certificate of Deposit Account Registry Service (CDARS). Through this program, NNB can offer depositors full FDIC insurance coverage on their deposits up to $130 Million, which is a remarkable increase over the FDIC’s standard limit of $100,000.
“Reaching this milestone feels great knowing we have changed the lives of so many people— helping them gain a renewed confidence through financial independence and success,” said President and CEO Bob Adkins. “NNB is a bank for the people, of the people. We’re a bank with heart.”
Throughout the past ten years, Neighborhood National Bank has evolved and grown. NNB recently celebrated the one year anniversary of its newest branch, located in the Casa de Oro area of East County, making a total of three locations in the San Diego region. Because of its rapid growth, there are plans to expand to a larger, new location in East County in late 2007.
The 10 year anniversary celebration will last throughout the year with the unveiling of new programs and services, along with events and media partnerships— giving NNB the opportunity to make an even more significant impact on the community.
