Adult Financial Literacy Courses in Spanish

SAN DIEGO – September 12, 2007 - Neighborhood Opportunities Corporation will offer their next adult financial literacy class this new school year to the Hispanic community of Southeastern San Diego at the Neighborhood National Bank at their 35th and National Avenue branch.  The two-part course covers banking basics and allows questions and answers with an immigration rights specialist.

The class will be held in Spanish on two consecutive Wednesdays, September 19th and 26th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at 3511 National Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113.  There is a $5.00 registration fee per student which will be credited to their next Directo a Mexico wire transfer transaction (a value of $4.99) at Neighborhood National Bank, the sponsor and affiliate of the non-profit.  For more information, and to register, contact the Program Director, Javier Angulo at 619.789.4428 or email noc@mynnb.com.

About Neighborhood Opportunties Corporation
Neighborhood Opportunities Corporation (NOC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose purpose is to  provide adult financial literacy to low to moderate-income communities in the San Diego area.  This program helps to build financial stability and encourages entrepreneurship and sustainability in these communities. 

In addition, this program helps new immigrants understand U.S. financial institutions and encourages sound financial management.  Program participants are residents of city communities that include adult students, new immigrants, and welfare to work populations and youths at risk.  A majority of the program participants are married couples looking for safe and sound ways to manage their money, particularly planning for home ownership and providing for the education of their children. 

At the end of 2004, the total number of individuals that have successfully completed this program was approximately 400.  By the end of 2006, NOC’s alumni will consist of a minimum of 1,700 participants in the San Diego area.  Initially, seeded with a grant from Neighborhood National Bank and it’s parent company, Neighborhood Bancorp, NOC has been self-sustaining through private and public monies garnered to support its educational efforts.
